Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Campbell dropped the final match of the Charlotte Invitational 3-1 to Charlotte Saturday afternoon at Halton Arena. The Camels grabbed the first set before dropping the following three.
The loss drops Campbell to 1-2 on the young season.
Chloe Cook paced the Camels on offense collecting 14 kills for the second match in a row.
Gwen Wolkow notched her first double-digit performance with 10 kills.
McKenna Sciacca nearly tallied another double-double posting 27 assists along with nine digs.
Claranne Fechter led the defensive effort with 17 digs.
After trailing early, a 7-0 run pushed the Camels in front for good. The run was fueled by four kills and two aces from
Claranne Fechter. Campbell would push its lead to as many as eight en route to a 25-20 win.
The 49ers returned the favor winning the second set by the same score. Campbell never led in the frame, though did even things up at 18-18 before four straight Charlotte kills helped push them to the finish.
It was all 49ers in the third set with a 25-15 win. After things were tied at 9-9, Charlotte reeled off a 10-1 run to quickly push the score to 19-10 and pull away for a 2-1 lead.
Charlotte finished off the match with a 25-17 fourth set. The Camels would again not lead in the frame while the 49ers slowly built a lead throughout that maxed out with the eight-point deficit as the final score.
The Fighting Camels face another road tournament next week as they travel to Valparaiso, Ind. for the Popcorn Classic, hosted by Valparaiso University. While there, Campbell will face Valpo along with Northern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville.
