Camels head to Valpo for Popcorn Classic

Buies Creek, NC - The Fighting Camels are on the road again in the second week of the season with a trip to the Popcorn Classic hosted by Valparaiso. In addition to the hosts, Campbell will face Northern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville during their stay in Indiana.

Weekend Schedule
Campbell vs NIU: Friday - 2 p.m.
Campbell at Valpo: Friday - 7 p.m.
Campbell vs SIUE: Saturday - 3 p.m.

Match Coverage
There will not be any video streams this weekend, but live stats will be available for all matches at the links on the schedule page. A radio broadcast courtesy of Valpo Athletics will be available for Friday night's match against Valpo.

Series Histories
Northern Ilinois and SIUE will each be first-time opponents for the Camels. Campbell has faced Valpo just once, falling in five sets at the NC Central Invitational on Aug. 30, 2014.

Scouting the Field
Northern Illinois began the year 2-1 with wins over NJIT and UIC, while dropping one in straight sets to South Dakota State. NIU was picked to finish fourth in the MAC this season in the league's preseason coaches poll.

Valparaiso is off to a hot 3-0 start, sweeping the Youngstown Invitational. The Beacons earned wins over Delaware State, Idaho, and Youngstown State. Libero Emma Hickey was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 5.36 digs/set during the opening weekend. Valpo was picked to finish fifth in the MVC preseason poll.

SIUE is 2-0 to begin its campaign with wins over Grambling State and SIU Carbondale at the Saluki Bash. The Cougars were picked to finish seventh in the OVC this season.

Last Time Out
Campbell opened the season 1-2 at the Charlotte Invitational, picking up a win over Morgan State in straight sets. Chloe Cook led the way on offense with 37 kills. Lailah Green, Claranne Fechter and McKenna Sciacca all notched double-doubles on opening weekend.

Looking Ahead
The Camels round out the long road trip to start the season at the Kentucky Invitational where they'll face Indiana State and No. 6 Wisconsin. Campbell is set to host its home opener as part of the Campbell Invitational Sept. 16 & 17.
