BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Head coach Jeff Gross has announced the 2023 women's soccer schedule. The two-time defending Big South regular season champions begin their 17-match regular season on the road on August 17th against familiar opponent High Point. The schedule includes 10 home contests and three opponents that participated in last year's Women's College Cup.
"Let the adventure begin!" Coach Gross said. "Entering a new endeavor is always fun, and there are always challenges in pursuing new things. As well, when competition is hard it brings out your best, if you want that challenge."
Before the season starts, the team will compete in two exhibition matches. The first is at Winthrop on Aug. 8, then the Camels will host Charlotte on Aug. 12. After the regular season opens against High Point, Campbell travels to take on Old Dominion on Aug. 20. The Monarchs are one of three NCAA tournament teams from a season ago.
The first home match of the regular season will be against former Big South opponent and defending conference champion Radford on August 23rd. It will be the 25th meeting between the two teams, tied for most all-time for Campbell against a single opponent (Gardner-Webb).
The matchup against the Highlanders begins a stretch of three straight matches at the Eakes Athletics Complex. The Camels will then host East Carolina (Aug. 27) and Davidson (Sep. 3).
The inaugural CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) conference season kicks off with a trip to Stony Brook on September 7th. This is the first ever meeting between the Camels and the Seawolves. It is one of five new opponents for Campbell, with all five being teams in the CAA.
That is followed by a match against the defending CAA Champions Hofstra Pride on Sep. 10. The Pride have won five of the last six CAA championships.
Campbell returns to Buies Creek for two matches on Sep. 14 (vs. Northeastern) and Sep. 17 (vs. Towson) before heading back on the road to take on William & Mary on Sep. 21 and College of Charleston on the 24th.
The Camels host another three matches to begin October as they welcome UNCW on the 1st. That is followed with visits from Drexel (Oct. 5) and Delaware (Oct. 8).
The team will travel to Hampton on the 15th in a matchup of two newcomers to the CAA. That will be followed by the final home match of the season, a bout against the Phoenix from Elon on October 19. The final regular season match will be a road trip against Monmouth on the 22nd.
"Campbell University has proven to be a growth mindset institution so it stands that Campbell women's soccer looks forward to growing in the challenge the CAA presents. This will be fun!" Gross concluded.
The top-6 finishers in the CAA regular season standings will then take place in the CAA Tournament beginning on Oct. 26 at a location to be determined later.
In their final season in the Big South Conference last year, the Camels went 11-3-4 and went undefeated in conference play to win their second-straight regular season championship. The team was also undefeated at home, holding a record of 7-0-2 at Eakes.
Seven players earned Big South honors, and the team ranked 4th in the country in assists per game (2.67) and 19th in scoring offense with 2.28 goals per contest.
Campbell will officially join the CAA on July 1st.
