BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Six wrestlers at Campbell University have received recognition as preseason rankings begin to be announced leading up to the upcoming 2023-24 season.
In addition to the six individual wrestlers, the team was ranked No. 28 by Intermat.
Domenic Zaccone, 133 - #15 Intermat, #14 FloWrestling, #14 WrestleStat, #13 The College Wrestling Report
Zaccone ended last season with his second-straight trip to NCAA Championships. He defeated Ethan Rotondo of Cal Poly to advance to Day 2 of the tournament. He finished the year with a 21-7 record, including a stretch of 10-straight victories from 11/20-2/12.
Shannon Hanna, 141 - #26 Intermat, #22 FloWrestling, #33 WrestleStat, #32 The College Wrestling Report
Named to the first-team All-SoCon, Hanna was the No. 27 seed at last year's NCAA Championships. He was undefeated in SoCon matches for the second year in a row, going a perfect 8-0 against conference opponents. Hanna had a 13-match winning streak, and he won the SoCon Championships at 141 pounds. He also tied for second on the team with five major decisions.
Austin Murphy, 174 - #30 Intermat, #28 WrestleStat, #23 The College Wrestling Report
Murphy is coming off a redshirt season during the 2022-23 campaign. In the season prior, he posted a 12-5 record and was the SoCon runner-up. Intermat had Murphy ranked as high as No. 12 during the 2021-22 season, and he was the No. 11 seed at the 2021 NCAA Championships.
Caleb Hopkins, 184 - #18 Intermat, #18 FloWrestling, #21 WrestleStat, #22 The College Wrestling Report
Caleb Hopkins was named to the All-SoCon team for the third time in his career last season while also winning his third-straight SoCon Championship and participating at NCAA Championships. He had a 16-8 record in dual matches, including five major decisions, one technical fall and two fall victories. One such major decision came against No. 32 Ben Vanadia of Purdue. His 12-2 victory helped Campbell earn their first victory over a Big 10 opponent.
Levi Hopkins, 197 - #27 Intermat, #22 FloWrestling, #14 WrestleStat, #15 The College Wrestling Report
Caleb's brother, Levi Hopkins is also coming off a year that ended at the NCAA Championships. He earned one victory at the event, defeating Michale Battista of Virginia by a 6-4 decision and advancing to Day Two. The Palmer, Alaska native was an undefeated 8-0 against SoCon opponents, recording three major decisions and five fall victories. Hopkins also earned victories against a pair of Big 10 opponents, defeated Purdue's Hayden Filipovich (2:45) and Brendin Yatooma of Michigan (3-2).
Taye Ghadiali, HWT - #15 Intermat, #18 FloWrestling, #13 WrestleStat, #17 The College Wrestling Report
The SoCon Wrestler of the Month in December 2022, Ghadiali went to his third-straight NCAA Championships in 2023, defeating Tate Orndorff of Ohio State in the first round. He won the conference championships, winning all three matches at the event by fall (0:56, 4:06, 1:42). Ghadiali went 7-0 against SoCon opponents, and he recorded the most major decisions on the team with six. He also recorded a victory against Purdue, defeating Tristan Ruhlman by a 14-4 major decision.
