BUIES CREEK –
Claranne Fechter was tabbed the CAA Defensive Player of the Week after a big week that also helped land her on the Campbell Invitational all-tournament team.
Fechter is the first Camel to garner a CAA weekly award, which is fitting for the senior that received a Campbell record nine Big South Libero of the Week awards during her first three seasons in Buies Creek.
Fechter tallied 91 digs across four home matches in a 2-2 week. Her biggest day came on Friday with a season-high 26 digs in the first match of the day against San Jose State, before resetting her season-high just hours later with 29 against UTSA. She wrapped up the weekend with 20 against Georgia Southern to notch at least 20 in all three matches of the tournament.
The Powell, Ohio native now leads the CAA with 53 more digs than any other player in the league.
The Fighting Camels begin CAA play this weekend with a pair of matches at Delaware. The Camels and Blue Hens square off Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. with both matches streamed on FloSports.
