John Crooks has announced the signing of Adrian Bergqvist (Stockholm, Sweden) and William Sundborn (Oslo, Norway). The Scandinavian standouts will join the Fighting Camel program as freshmen in August 2025.
"After much hard work, we believe that we have found two of the finest players in Europe to join our program," said Crooks, who is in his 35th year in charge of the team. "We had the opportunity to watch each of these young men in high-pressure situations in their respective national championships, and it became apparent that both can help lead our team into the future. Adrian and William are outstanding young men, exceptional students, and accomplished athletes who will be a part of winning championships at Campbell."
Bergqvist and Sundborn join a Fighting Camel program that finished the fall season ranked among the nation's top 100 Division I teams and has participated in seven of the last eight NCAA Regional championships.
Bergqvist already has one victory and two top-10 finishes in eight World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) events. He won the 2024 Balearic Spain Professional Championship and the 2024 Battle of Stockholm. He was runner-up at the 2024 Magnus Jakobssons Memorial and 2023 Robert Karlsson Junior Open.
In addition, Bergqvist reached the round of 16 at the Swedish U21 National Match Play Championship and finished T25 at the 2024 Swedish U21 National Stroke Play Championship. He also produced top-10 showing at the 2024 Swedish Golf Team Invitational (4th) and 2024 Linkoping Junior Open (7th).
Sundborn's career includes two victories and 13 top 10s in 27 WAGR tournaments. He won the 2024 Oslandstour International Trophy and Nextup Junior Invitational, while finishing 11th at the 2024 Norwegian Men's National Championship.
A 2024 French International Juniors participant, Sunborn posted eight top 20s on the 2024 Srixon Junior Tour and six top 20 finishes on the 2023 Srixon Junior Tour.
Bergqvist and Sundborn will join a long list of Scandinavian standouts to compete for the Camels. Two-time Big South golfer of the year Jesper Svensson (2015-19) will join the PGA TOUR for the 2025 season after finishing 10th in the 2024 Race Dubai on the DP World Tour.
Pontus Nyholm, the 2021 Big South golfer of the year, turned professional in 2022 and finished 40th on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour point list.
