Campbell and Elon battle for top spot in division

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell and Elon meet on the pitch in a crucial matchup to determine seeding in the upcoming CAA Tournament. Each team controls their destiny in the fight for the one-seed in the CAA South Division.

Scouting Elon: The Phoenix enter the contest on a three-match unbeaten streak, earning a win over UNCW and draws against Charleston and #7 Duke. Dominik Renz leads the team with three goals, while Martin Kozak has two goals and four assists. The squad has scored just 11 goals on the year, but have only allowed five over 14 games. Jackson Leavitt has played every minute in goal, and he leads the CAA in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts.
 
Series History: The Camels have a 10-13-2 record in the 25 games played against Elon. The teams played to a scoreless draw last month in a game that saw heavy rain in the first half.
 
Senior Day: Campbell is recognizing five seniors this year on Senior Day. Lotem Ben Dov, Daniel Santos Rosa, Emilio Garza, Ioannis Moros and Ethan Roberts.
 
Clinching Situation: Elon will clinch the No. 1 seed in the south division with a win over the Camels. Campbell can clinch the one seed with a win over Elon and a win/ draw against UNCW on Wednesday.
 
Last Time Out: Campbell defeated USC Upstate, 3-2, to finish its non-conference slate with a 5-3-2 record. Lotem Ben Dov, Ethan Roberts and Sam Roberson each recorded goals, as the Camels moved to 8-1 when scoring first.
 
Postseason Participation: The Fighting Camels have clinched their spot in the CAA Tournament as one of the top three teams in the South Division. Elon has also clinched its spot, while UNCW and Charleston battle it out for the final spot in the division. All three seeds are up for grabs for Campbell with two CAA games remaining.
 
In the Rankings: The Camels are No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region Rankings this week. They are joined by fellow CAA members Hofstra (No. 1), Elon (No. 7), Drexel (No. 9) and Monmouth (No. 10).
 
Camels receive Laurels: Kristijan Bandur (10/6) and Daniel Santos Rosa (10/13) won back-to-back CAA Offensive Player of the Week awards.
 
Caught 100: Dustin Fonder became the third coach in Campbell history to surpass the century mark, joining Derrick Leeson (101 wins, 1991-2001) and Jim Cole (138 wins, '63-'75). Fonder has the most wins in CU's Division I era, as Cole coached during Campbell's time in the NAIA.
 
Top of the League: The Camels are first in the CAA in goals (30) goal differential (13) and points per game (5.50). Max Leviton is fifth in the CAA in goals against average (1.042) and save percentage (0.717). Ethan Roberts is third in total goals (6) and third in game-winning goals (2). Daniel Santos Rosa is third in the league with five assists.
 
Last Season: The Camels improved on their 2023 season with an 8-6-4 record in 2024 (3-4-1 in CAA play). Returning defender Luc Lavielle was named to the CAA All-Freshman team, while Owen Mikoy was a second-team honoree and Daniel Osei-Tutu earned third-team recognition.
 
New to the Creek: Campbell welcomes 12 new faces to its team in 2024. This year's freshman class includes forwards Dani Giovannetti, Auggie Squillace, Skyler Wright, Kana Dube and Kristijan Bandur. Defender Ronnie Garcia also joins the freshman class. Transfers Sam Sery, Xander Martin, Zane Pederson, Kairi Saito, Xander Naguib and Daniel Santos Rosa round out the newcomers.
 
Dapaah and Matos earn Preseason Honors: Filipe Matos and Evans Dapaah were named to the Preseason All-CAA Team as voted on by the coaches. Matos led the Camels in goals and points last year, while Dapaah was a strong mainstay within the Campbell midfield.
 
Returning Experience: Five Camels that recorded over 1,000 minutes in 2024 make their return to Eakes for the 2025 season. Jake Roberts, the new team captain, returns along the back line with Luc Lavielle. Evans Dapaah makes his return to the midfield, and Filipe Matos and Marco Wright find their places back on the wings.
