Wrestling prepared to face George Mason, Williams, and Bloomsburg at Mason Duals

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell wrestling heads back to Virginia for the second straight weekend on Saturday morning as the Fighting Camels compete in a quad meet at the Mason Duals, hosted by George Mason.

Campbell will face three programs, beginning with the host Patriots at 9 a.m. on Mat 1. The Camels will take on Williams College at 10:30 a.m., also on Mat 1, before wrapping up the day against Bloomsburg University at 1:30 p.m. on Mat 2.

The duals will be held at the George Mason Field House in Fairfax, Virginia. Action begins at 9 a.m. and will stream live on George Mason All-Access.

PREVIEWING THE MATCHUP

George Mason was picked to finish first in the Mid-American Conference preseason poll. The Patriots feature four wrestlers ranked in the top 25 of their respective weight classes in the NCAA Coaches' Rankings: No. 24 Kaden Cassidy (149), No. 19 DJ McGee (157), No. 24 Evan Maag (165) and No. 21 Malachi DuVall (184). The Patriots competed at the Navy Classic last weekend, where Cassidy earned an impressive 15-9 victory over Pittsburgh's No. 8 Kade Brown in the semifinals on his way to the 147-pound title.

Saturday's matchup will mark the sixth meeting between the two programs, dating back to 2005. It will be just the second time the teams have met in Fairfax. George Mason leads the all-time series 4-1, though Campbell won the most recent meeting, 32-6, in 2017 at College Park, Maryland.

Williams College, a Division III program, opens its 2025-26 season this weekend. The Ephs are led by head coach Scott Honecker, the 2024-25 Massachusetts College Coach of the Year, and enter ranked No. 20/21 in Division III.

Bloomsburg boasts four wrestlers in the MAC's top-10 preseason rankings after finishing fourth at the 2025 MAC Championships. The Huskies competed last weekend at the ESU Open and Rutgers Duals, finishing seventh out of 48 teams at ESU and earning their first dual victory of the season with a dominant 40-4 win over Centenary University (N.J.).

LAST TIME OUT

Redshirt freshman Colby Crouch made an impressive collegiate debut, winning the 125-pound title at the Southeast Open on Nov. 2. His performance led a strong day for Campbell, which had five placewinners in the freshman/sophomore division.

Crouch went 4-0 with three decisions and a technical fall. Jonathan Chang placed fourth at 149, while Ryan Phillips and Kendrick Hodge each finished fifth. Sawyer VanRider took sixth at 197. In total, 18 Camels competed in the season opener, earning 38 wins in 70 matches.

PRESEASON TALK

Campbell was picked to finish sixth in the Southern Conference preseason poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

The Camels enter their first season under head coach TJ Dudley, a three-time All-American who was promoted after serving as a Campbell assistant. Dudley takes over a program that went 7-1 in SoCon duals last season, earning wins over Gardner-Webb, Chattanooga, Davidson, Bellarmine, Presbyterian, VMI and Appalachian State.
