Camels set for Campbell Invitational

BUIES CREEK - The Camels are set for their home opener with the Fairfield Inn & Suites Dunn Campbell Invitational. The Camels will play three games against Gardner-Webb, Norfolk State, and UNCG. All three of Campbell's games during the event will be broadcast on FloCollege.

About The Field
Gardner-Webb enters with a 1-3 mark, with a season-opening win over Sacred Heart before dropping the next three. Isabel Sandstrum leads the offense with 38 kills, while Nalani McBride anchors the defense with 92 digs. The Runnin' Bulldogs were picked to finish 11th in the Big South preseason poll.

Norfolk State is in search of its first win this season, sitting at 0-4 and coming off a loss to No. 16 Florida. Gabrielle Gilbert paces the offense with 51 kills, more than three times more than anybody else on the squad. Mary Nahinu handles libero duties and leads the way with 43 digs. The Spartans were picked to finish fourth in the MEAC and received one first-place vote.

UNCG went a perfect 3-0 in their home tournament to open the campaign, including a win over Gardner-Webb already. Allie Sweet leads the way with 51 kills while the Spartans are hitting .269 as a team. Libero Chloe Nussbaum collected 6.64 digs/set in the first weekend, putting her first in the nation in the category. UNCG was selected fifth in the SoCon preseason poll.

Series History
CU stands at 13-10 all-time with Gardner-Webb. The sides have not met since Campbell's departure from the Big South in 2023, where Campbell won the last three meetings.

Campbell is 5-0 all-time against Norfolk State, though the series has been dormant for the last decade. The sides last met in 2015, a 3-0 win for the Camels.

The Camels are 9-20 all-time against UNCG but have met just once in the past 20 years, a 3-1 Campbell win in 2021.

Last Time Out
Campbell went 1-2 at the Gamecock Invitational, defeating ETSU in straight sets and falling to Clemson and South Carolina. Maja Daca earned all-tournament honors with 26 total kills on .367 hitting, and five service aces.

Looking Ahead
Campbell heads to the Queens Invitational in Charlotte with matches against Queens, UNC Asheville, and The Citadel.
