BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Senior outfielder
Charlie Montgomery was named CAA Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Montgomery slashed .643/.688/.857 in five games at the Campbell Stampede. She went 9-for-14 with a double, a triple, six RBIs and three stolen bases, helping the Camels score 51 runs during the opening weekend, the eighth-most in the NCAA.
Montgomery crossed the plate six times and opened the season by going 3-for-3 with a triple against Tennessee Tech on Friday night. The Lumber Bridge, N.C., native followed with a 2-for-3 performance that included a double and three RBIs in the second game of the night against Florida A&M.
The honor comes after Montgomery was named to the All-CAA Preseason Team.
Montgomery shares the weekly honor with Charleston sophomore catcher Leela Langston, who recorded three walk-off hits during the Cougars' four-win weekend. NC A&T junior Aaliyah Williams earned CAA Pitcher of the Week, while Charleston outfielder Bronwyn Conroy was named CAA Rookie of the Week.
Montgomery and the Camels will compete this weekend at the War Eagle Classic in Auburn. Campbell opens the tournament against Illinois at 3 p.m.
