GREENSBORO, N.C. The Campbell University baseball team
defeated North Carolina A&T on Tuesday afternoon 19-5. With the victory, the Camels now
sit 4-0 on the season. This
is just the second time in the program's history, that the Camels
have started a season 4-0.
The Camels received plenty of help at the plate thanks in large
part to junior Zach Johnson. The Smithfield, N.C. native finished
the day with batting 4-of-5, with two home runs and five RBI. The two home runs and five RBI
are new career highs for Johnson.
Campbell also got effective production from the top of their
lineup. The quartet of
Chris Bangi, Ellis Lowe, Ryan Hamme and Alex Aycoth combined for
nine of the Camels 19 runs.
Logan Davis was credited with the win versus the Aggies. The junior from Ft. Cobb, Okla.
is now 2-0 on the season.
Davis allowed just three hits over two and two-thirds innings for
the Camels on Tuesday.
The Camels fell behind 2-0 after the first inning and trailed 2-1
after two complete innings.
Campbell would post 10 runs in the top of the third inning allowing
them to gain the lead, one that they would not relinquish en route
to the 19-5 decision.
The Aggies were paced by shortstop James Howard. Howard scored two of the Aggies five
runs and finished the day batting 4-of-5. Nick Oelker was charged with the loss
after pitching just 2.1 innings while allowing eight runs on seven
hits.
Campbell returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they play host
to the Spartans of UNC Greensboro. First pitch at Taylor Field is slated
for 4 p.m.
