BUIES CREEK, N.C. The Campbell baseball team dropped
Tuesday's contest to the Dayton Flyers by a score of 12-3. The loss drops Campbell's season
record to 9-7, while Dayton improves to 8-8 on the season.
There were some bright spots for the Camels. Matt Keen (Four Oaks, N.C.), Graham
Fronk (Charlotte, N.C.) and Ryan Hamme (Wilmington, N.C.) had a
good day at the dish. Keen
paced all Camels finishing 2-of-3 with a run scored; Keen also
finished the day with three stolen bases. Fronk and Hamme combined to hit 4-of-7
and Fronk drove in and scored a run.
The Camels fell behind 3-0 after the top of the second inning, but
would rally to tie the game. Campbell would score one run in the
third and two runs in the fourth to tie the Flyers. The Camels would fail to push any more
runs across over the final five innings, as Campbell finished the
game with nine runners left on base.
Dayton pushed ahead for good after posting three runs in the sixth
and four runs in the seventh to extend the lead to 10-3. The Flyers would push two more
runs across in the ninth en route to the 12-3 victory.
Jeff Rydman got the start on the mound for the Camels against the
Flyers. The Gladstone, Mo.
native pitched four innings allowing three runs on five hits. Rydman also struck out five
batters during his outing.
Rydman would be credited with a no-decision after pitching just
four innings as the score was tied at three when he departed.
Dan Gardo (West Chester, Pa.) would be credited with the loss after
pitching just two innings, while allowing five runs on six
hits. Gardo's season record
now sits at 0-2. Ryan Hamme
pitched the final three innings for the Camels. Four runs came in to score on Hamme's
watch on just six hits.
Flyers' pitcher Chuck Ghysels got credit for the win and now sits
at 1-0 on the season.
Ghysels pitched seven complete innings as three runs came in to
score on just seven hits.
Dayton was paced at the plate by Jake Hoover and Aaron
Dunsmore. The pair combined
to bat 7-of-10 at the dish, with two RBI.
Campbell and Dayton will complete their two game series tomorrow
afternoon. First pitch at
Taylor Field is slated for 4 p.m.
