JACKSONVILLE,
FLA. - Khalil Johnson scored the game's lone goal and Campbell
secured three vital points in the Atlantic Sun men's soccer race
with a 1-0 victory Saturday at North Florida.
A senior from Kingston, Jamaica, Johnson took a pass from Brian
Urioste in the 41st minute and launched a right-footed shot into
the top left corner of the net.
Campbell (5-6-4, 3-4-0 A-Sun) moved into a tie with Mercer and
Jacksonville for the fourth seed in the league tournament standings
heading into the final two games of the A-Sun regular season. The
Camels host Belmont Thursday and Lipscomb Saturday.
On Saturday, the Camels nearly jumped in front in the seventh
minute on the first shot of the game when Justin Franz hit the
post.
Johnson's strike was his second game-winner of the year and coupled
with Ryan Amons' fifth shutout in goal, helped the Camels end a
three-game losing streak. Amons finished with four saves in the
nets.
UNF nearly equalized in the 51st minute when Patrik Lippe's shot
was cleared off the line. Mitchell Cardenas's shot in the 80th
minute could have doubled Campbell's margin, but it was also
cleared out of danger.
Campbell finished with a 16-11 edge in shots, 6-5 in shots on
goal. Andrew Calise finished with four saves for the Ospreys (3-9,
2-5). The game was delayed an hour due to the late arrival of
officials.
