BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Steven Leonard went 3-for-3, Cole Hallum homered and Campbell won its 10th game in a row with a 4-2 victory over visiting Bowling Green Sunday at Jim Perry Stadium.
With the win, the Camels (13-2) swept the three game series from BGSU (3-6). The last 10-game winning streak for CU came at the end of the 2013 season, when the Camels won 12-straight on the way to the Big South title game.
Leonard, a redshirt junior from Monument, Colo., broke open a scoreless game in the third, sending a 1-2 pitch back up the middle to score Cedric Mullins and Brian Taylor from second and third. Leonard also notched base hits in the fifth and seventh, extending his hitting streak to eight games.
Mullins, who also lengthened his own hitting streak to eight games with a 2-for-4 day, scored his second run of the day in the fifth on Kyle Leady's RBI groundout, making it 3-1 Camels after BGSU put a run on the board in the top of the inning.
The Falcons threatened with two outs in the top of the sixth with a pair of singles, along with a wild pitch, brought Addison Rospert home, making it 3-2.
Hallum's leadoff home run in the home half of the frame put the Camels back up 4-2. The homer marked Hallum's second in as many days, and gave CU a round tripper in four straight games for the first time since the 2012 season (April 7-11, 2012).
The home run was Hallum's fourth and the team's 11th this season. The 2014 Campbell team produced just 11 home runs through its entire regular season, ending the year with 14.
Hallum also closed out the game for the Camels on the mound, grabbing his third save with a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out the final batter.
Travis Long (2-0) started and picked up the win for Campbell, allowing a run on five hits with four strikeouts. He did not walk a batter. The start was the first for Long as a Camel, with the senior entering the game with six appearances out the bullpen this season.
Bobby Thorson allowed a run on two hits with a punchout in an inning, while Coley Thompkins worked two frames, surrendering just one hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
For the fourth time this season, Campbell pitchers combined to issue just one walk while strikeout out double digits.
Zac Carey (0-2) took the loss for Bowling Green, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
Campbell is scheduled to make its first appearance away from Buies Creek next Tuesday, March 10 at East Carolina. So far, CU has seen four away contests canceled or moved to Jim Perry Stadium due to weather conditions.
Following the short trip to ECU, the Camels return home, opening Big South play with Longwood on March 13.
