Richard Benson, a freshman sprinter from San Diego, Calif., is in his first season with the Campbell track & field program. He has competed in four meets for the Fighting Camels, including two during the indoor season and two in outdoors. Benson has a collegiate best of 11.68s in the 100m and 53.75s in the 400m. He intends to major in Business Administration at Campbell.

Events: 200m, 400m and 4x400m relay
Why did you decide to compete in track & field: I fell in love with the sport after my last year of high school.
Who was your greatest influence growing up: Tupac Shakur. He was a big influence growing up in California. You've got to be a voice in your community and he did that so I want to do the same thing and be an inspiration to kids in my community.

Which professional athlete would you most like to meet: Deion Sanders. Football was my first love and he was my favorite player of all time and my mindset is just like his.
