Patience Marshall set a school and Big South Conference record in the shot put event at the USA Track and Field Championships Saturday evening to qualify for the 2019 Pan American U-20 Championships July 19-21.
Marshall set a new personal, school, and conference record with a mark of 16.05m to claim the event among competitors from Mississippi, Washington, and Miami (Fla.) among others.
Her mark surpasses previous Big South record holder Naomi Mojica who set a mark of 15.93m at the Big South Championship on May 10, 2018.
Marshall's personal best, that surpassed her previous record of 14.59m, qualifies her for the 2019 Pan American Championships in San JoÅ›e, Costa Rica July 19-21.Â
The rookie also competed in the discus throw event where she placed sixth with a distance of 49.13m.
