BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Head coach Greg Goral and the Campbell University volleyball program has announced the Fighting Camels' 2019 schedule.
Including the Big South, Campbell will face 11 different conferences during the 2019 campaign: American, American East, Atlantic Sun, Horizon, Mid-Eastern, Southern, Southland, Summit, Sun Belt and Pacific-12. Additionally, the Camels will play across five states: Colorado, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
The Fighting Camels will begin the 2019 campaign in Georgia as CU travels to Macon for the Mercer Bears Classic. Campbell's season opener is slated for Friday, Aug. 30 in a neutral-site matchup against Georgia Southern. The Camels will face Nicholls State on Friday before facing Mercer on Saturday, Aug. 31 to wrap up the opening weekend.
Campbell's home opener will be Tuesday, Sept. 3 as the Fighting Camels welcome longtime rival UNC Wilmington to Buies Creek. Campbell will then host NC Central on Friday, Sept. 6, before traveling to Durham the following day for a road contest against the NCCU Eagles.
CU will take a quick six-day break from competition to host the Comfort Inn Fuquay Invitational the next weekend, with North Dakota, The Citadel and South Carolina State coming to Buies Creek. The tournament will run on Sept. 13 and Sept. 14. A full schedule can be viewed at this link.
Campbell will head to Boulder, Colo., the following weekend for the Colorado Classic hosted by the Colorado Buffaloes. The Camels will open the tournament against UMBC on Friday, Sept. 20, before taking on Oakland and Colorado on Saturday, Sept. 21.
CU will wrap up its non-conference slate on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at in-state rival East Carolina.
The Camels will play their first three Big South matches on the road, traveling to Virginia to face Hampton (Saturday, Sept. 28) and Radford (Friday, Oct. 4) before making the short trek to High Point on Saturday, Oct. 5. The conference home opener is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 11 as the Camels host USC Upstate at Gore Arena.
Campbell's conference slate features home-and-home series with Hampton, High Point, Radford, UNC Asheville and USC Upstate. The Camels will face Charleston Southern (away), Gardner-Webb (home), Presbyterian (away) and Winthrop (home) once during the Big South season.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, Campbell hosts Hampton, beginning a five-game home stretch that comes to an end on Saturday, Nov. 9, which will be a Senior Day match against Radford. The regular season will come to a close on Saturday, Nov. 16, when the Camels face USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. The Big South Championship will follow, scheduled for Friday through Sunday, Nov. 22-24 in Rock Hill, S.C.
