BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Head coach John Crooks has announced the hiring of Lyndsey Hunnell as assistant golf coach at Campbell University.  Hunnell replaces C.C. Buford, who accepted the position as head women's golf coach at East Carolina.

A 2018 graduate from the University of Virginia, Hunnell competed as a graduate transfer last year at Xavier University, where she posted a top-10 finish in the Big East Championship and led the Musketeers to their first-ever Big East title and NCAA Regional appearance.

She joined the Fighting Camel program after working as a communications intern for the American Junior Golf Association.

A participant in the 2016 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, Hunnell was a four-year member of the UVA women's golf team that won Atlantic Coast Conference championships in 2015 and 2016.  She earned ACC Academic Honor Roll status twice and graduated with a B.A. in media studies.

While earning her M.Ed. in sports administration from Xavier, Hunnell earned Big East All-Conference honors and posted four top-10 individual finishes while helping the Musketeers win four team titles.

"Lyndsey has an engaging personality and natural positive energy," said Crooks.  "Her sport administration degree coupled with her playing experience will offer our student-athletes a new perspective on being successful.  Lyndsey's winning attitude and her desire to help are great attributes for our new assistant coach."

In addition to competing as a student-athlete, Hunnell was involved as a volunteer with Special Olympics golf and National Girls in Sports Day during her undergraduate career.  She also worked with UVA game day marketing and promotions.

"I am honored to join the Campbell athletic department and women's golf program," said Hunnell.  "It is a dream come true to be able to work alongside well-renowned Coach Crooks and this fantastic group of student athletes. I look forward to seeing the team soon and getting started on our pursuit of another championship season!"

A native of Troutville, Va., Hunnell was a four-time Roanoke Valley girls player of the year and finished fourth in the Virginia state high school championship as a senior.

She joins a Fighting Camel program that finished the 2019 season ranked 22nd in the final WGCA poll, won its fourth-straight Big South Conference title and advanced to the NCAA regionals for the eighth-consecutive season.
