MACON, Ga. — Campbell volleyball suffered a 3-0 loss (11-25, 16-25, 17-25) to the Georgia Southern Eagles in both teams' 2019 season opener, as part of the Mercer Bears Classic at Hawkins Arena.

Sarah Colla led the Fighting Camel offense with 11 kills on 32 attacks. Emily Mitter dished out 12 assists in her Campbell debut, while Madee Miner added nine assists.

The Campbell defense was led by Colla, Kate Menz and Elyse Gross, who each recorded five digs. Melody Paige finished with a team-high five blocks.

Georgia Southern outhit the Camels, .309-.033, led by Maddie Bryant's match-high 12 kills in 26 attacks. Carly Turner added nine kills, and Baylor Bumford had eight kills. Madison Brown paced the Eagles offense with 35 assists.

The Fighting Camels return to the court this evening for a 4:30 p.m. matchup against Nicholls State. The Colonials defeated Mercer in the invitational opener earlier today, 3-1.
