CHARLOTTE - Amon Kemboi, Lawrence Kipkoech, Khai McLin and Amon Terer have all been selected to the Men's Big South Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team, presented by Hercules Tires.
Candidates for the team were determined by the Big South based on being at least one of the following: was a multiple All-Conference honoree; was named an All-American; Is a member of the Big South Conference Hall of Fame; Student-athletes must be a college graduate or in good academic standing with their respective institution; won a Conference Championship as a coach and/or was voted Conference Coach of the Year.
The All-Decade team was split into five categories including sprints/hurdles, distance/mid-distance, jumps, throws and decathletes.
Amon Kemboi (2017-2018) - Distance/Mid-Distance - Kapsabet, Kenya
- Earned All-American status in 2018 after a fifth-place finish in the 5000m at the NCAA Championships
- Two-time Big South Runner of the Year
- Holds the fastest 1500m time in Big South history at 3:39.72
- Also holds the sixth-fastest 10,000m time (28:55.46), the third-fastest 5000m time (13:37.48)
- Three-time Big South individual champion and four-time All-Conference performer
Lawrence Kipkoech (2015-2019) - Distance/Mid-Distance - Eldoret, Kenya
- Six-time All-American
- Two-time Big South Runner of the Year
- Three-time Big South Most Outstanding Track Performer
- Named the 2015 Big South Freshman of the Year
- Holds the third-fastest 10,000m time in Big South history (28:41.19) and the fourth-fastest 5000m time (13:42.08)
- Eight-time Big South individual champion and nine-time All-Conference performer
Khai Mclin (2016-2018) - Sprints/Hurdles - Plantation, Fla.
- Three-time Big South individual champion and six-time All-Conference performer
- Named the 2016 Big South Freshman of the Year
- Holds the sixth-fastest 200m time in Big South history at 20.81 and the seventh-fastest 100m time at 10.41
- Also a member of the sixth-fastest 4x100m relay team in Big South history (40.08) alongside Lorne Jenkins, Tashinga Chitambira and Fabian Jarrett
Amon Terer (2014-17) - Distance/Mid-Distance - Eldoret, Kenya
- Three-time All-American
- Named the Big South Runner of the Year in 2017
- Holds both the fifth-fastest 5000m time (13:50.25) and 10,000m time (28:54.42) in Big South history
- Three-time Big South individual champion and six-time All-Conference performer
Kemboi, Kipkoech, and Terer were also named to both the Big South Indoor Track & Field and Cross Country All-Decade teams, released earlier this month.
A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total. The 2010-19 Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team is listed below in alphabetical order by event and features eight sprinters/hurdlers, nine distance/mid-distance runners, eight jumpers, nine throwers, two decathletes and one head coach. In case of ties, additional honorees have been added.
Candidates that participated in two different decades were placed in a specific decade based on consultation from member institutions. Member institutions also had final determination in regards to inclusion of student-athletes and coaches. Previous Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Teams were recognized for the years 1997-99 and 2000-09.
