Jacquel named 1st team preseason All-American

National scoring leader returns for senior season

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell forward Thibaut Jacquel has been named first-team preseason All-American by College Soccer News. A senior from Saverne, France, Jacquel tied for the national goal scoring lead (18) in 2019 when he was a third-team All-America choice by the United Soccer Coaches.

"I'm so happy for Thibaut individually to get this award," said Campbell head coach Dustin Fonder.  "Hopefully, this will help set him up for an excellent senior year that will get him on the radar of many MLS teams."

The 2019 Big South Conference attacking player of the year, Jacquel tied for third in the country with 41 points on the strength of 18 goals and five assists.  He led the Camels to a school-record 17 wins, a number 24 national ranking and to the second round of the NCAA College Cup.

In addition, he tied for first in the country with seven game-winning goals, including the decisive strike against High Point in the Big South Conference final.  Jacquel tallied at least one point in 12 of the last 16 outings of the season - including 16 goals in that span – and scored in the 81st minute of Campbell's NCAA first round win at No. 15 James Madison.

"It's great to be named first-team All-American, obviously, but I have to thank the team," said Jacquel.  "Everyone here trains hard every day. I think the whole team should get this honor, not just me."

Last season, the Camels tied a school record for wins (17), while posting a record 10 shutouts and earning the program's first league double since 1985.  Campbell outscored its two Big South tournament opponents 7-1 and won at James Madison in the NCAA College Cup first round to match the school record for consecutive unbeaten matches at 15 (14-0-1).  CU fell at top-ranked and eventual national runner-up Virginia 2-0 in the College Cup second round.

The 2019 Big South Coach of the Year, Fonder returns nine starters and 15 letter winners from last year's squad that finished 17-3-2 overall, 8-0-0 in the Big South and was ranked No. 24 in the final United Soccer Coaches and Soccer America polls.
