Campbell Wrestling’s all-time wins leaderboard

Which Campbell wrestlers have the most wins of all time? Unless you've been following the program since the 1980's or before, this list may surprise you. The wrestling program has seen significant growth in individuals over the past five recent seasons, but there is a history to this program that newer fans may not know. In this article, we will explore the Campbell wrestlers in the 100 Wins Club.

Honorable Mentions
Before we look at the full list, we have to discuss the wrestlers who just missed the mark. Herman Hoss Rhoton (97 wins) and Chris Baumgartner (95 wins) both wrestled on teams in the 1990's and are recognized for their top ten all-time wins accomplishments. In the new era of Campbell Wrestling, Noah Gonser (96 wins) and Jere Heino (95 wins) were oh-so-close. If the 2020 NCAA Wrestling Championships were not cancelled, both would have had the chance to reach 100 wins. Please note that some wrestlers on this list may have earned wins prior to transferring to Campbell, such as Noah Gonser (51 wins while at CU). Since this list is based off of total career wins, we are still counting them.

8. Dan Osborne (103 wins)
In the early 90's Danny Osborne racked up quite a few impressive victories, including championships at the Pembroke State Open and Mountaineer Open. The heavyweight was quick, mastering the art of the takedown-let-up technique. One of Osborne's most memorable matches was in a dual against then ranked Wilkes University where he had to win his match to secure a win for the team. Not only did he win, but he earned the major decision with all of his takedowns.

Renaud

7. Paul Renaud (104 wins)
There were plenty of talented young men sharpening their skills in the Campbell Wrestling room in the 90's, including Paul Renaud. He earned just one more career victory than Dan Osborne. Renaud was a 2X Campbell Wrestling MVP in 1991 and 1992 and even earned an impressive 36 wins in one season. As he grew older he still hungered for more action and made an appearance in the 2016 alumni match at the Orange & Black wrestle off where he wrestled Brian Miller (Class of '96).

6. Quentin Perez (105 wins)
From 6-20 in his freshman season to 26-6 in his senior season, Quentin Perez experienced tremendous growth at Campbell University. Though if it wasn't for those six wins during his freshman season, he would be just shy of making the list. At Campbell, Quentin won two SoCon Championships and qualified three times for the NCAA Championships, being named an NWCA All-American during the 2020 season. His SoCon Championship victory pushed him just ahead of Paul Renaud on the list.

5. Robert Sottile (107 wins)
After dusting off the record books, we found another Campbell transfer from the 1980's who has enough wins to make our list. Sottile won 23 matches during his freshman year at Catawba College, then he made the decision to transfer to another North Carolina school, Campbell University. As a camel, Sottile went 21-10 as a sophomore before going 11-1 and sustaining a bad injury the following season. In his final two years at Campbell, Sottile went 32-1 and 20-2. Under Head Coach Jerry Hartman, Sottile graduated in 1988 with a career record of 107-20. In the 1980's his teams were described as being some of the best that Campbell ever had.

Scott Amundsen

4. Scott Amundsen (109 wins)
A force of reckoning in the late 80's, Scott Amundsen wrestled at Campbell from 1987-1991. His best season came in his senior year when he won 29 matches. He would have claimed the crown as Campbell's "season wins" record holder in 1991 if not for his other teammates Chris Howell and Paul Renaud who each earned 36 wins during that same season. Iron sharpens iron, as the saying goes; and, the wrestling room that year was stacked. Scott went on to coach at Campbell for a few seasons and still remains one of Campbell Wrestling's most loyal fans.

3. Andrew Morgan (115 wins)
Andrew Morgan has had some outstanding seasons at Campbell! The stud posted winning records each season and qualified for the NCAA Championships twice. This past year he was named an NWCA-All American after an incredible season capped off by winning the 2020 SoCon Championships at 184 lbs. He knocked off a ranked Nino Bonaccorsi (PITT), Noah Stewart (ARMY), Marcus Coleman (ISU), and Matt Waddell (CHATT) all in 2020 and earned medals at Midlands, Reno Tournament of Champions, Navy Classic, and Southeast Open. Since Morgan had wins before arriving at Campbell that put him over the 100 wins threshold, we must note that he had 93 of his total wins at Campbell.

2. Anthony Cox (120 wins)
Although he doesn't hold the career wins record for this list, Anthony Cox is technically the all-time wins leader at Campbell since he wrestled his whole career as a Camel. The homegrown North Carolinian made a real name for himself on the mat in the late 1980's. He competed during the team's transition from NAIA to D1 and became the school's first-ever wrestler to qualify twice for the NCAA Wrestling Championships. In his junior season (1988), he missed All-American status by just one match when he fell to Joe Decamillis (WYO). Cox was later elected to the Campbell University Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. According to Former Coach Jerry Hartman, Cox had a phenomenal lateral drop, which is part of the reason he earned so many wins at Campbell.

1. Nathan Kraisser (133 wins)
It's only fitting that Campbell Wrestling's first All-American, Nathan Kraisser, sits at the top of the all-time wins list. Fans will never forget his stunning blood round victory at the 2017 NCAA Championships. During his senior season, Nathan earned big wins over ranked opponents such as Joshua Rodriguez (NDST), Freddie Rodriguez (SIUE), and Gabe Townsell (STAN). He was also a multiple-time conference champion, including a 2016 SoCon title and a 2014 ACC title. Nathan compiled 59 wins at UNC and 74 at Campbell. He will sit in history books for years to come as Campbell's first-ever All-American and the career wins leader.
