BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell and Jackson State have agreed to a 2022 football date, the institutions announced today.
The Camels will make the trip to JSU on October 22, giving CU six nonconference dates on the 2022 slate. The Big South Conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
It will mark the first meeting between the programs, pitting the last two top recruiting classes in the FCS against each other (Jackson State in 2021, Campbell in 2022).
Campbell's 2022 nonconference schedule now includes The Citadel on September 3 at Barker-Lane Stadium, trips to William & Mary (September 10) and East Carolina (September 17), North Carolina Central at home (October 1), as well as a road contest at Delaware State (November 19) in addition to the Jackson State game.
All kickoff times are to be determined.
Campbell's future nonconference schedules also include dates at Liberty (2024), North Carolina State (2025 and 2028) and Florida (2026).
In 2021, Campbell produced three FCS All-Americans, including Big South Defensive Player of the Year
Brevin Allen, who posted a record-setting season, as well as wide receiver
Caleb Snead, who finished his CU career as the program's all-time leading receiver. Rookie linebacker
CJ Tillman was also named Freshman All-America. Allen headlined six Camels on the league's 2021 all-conference teams.
Defensively, Campbell ranked fourth in the FCS in turnovers gained (25) and defensive touchdowns (4) at season's end. On the offensive side, the Camels led the Big South in passing offense at 261.6 yards per game, ranking 22nd in the FCS, setting a school record for passing yards (2,901) and passing touchdowns (24) this season.
