Winners of four straight, Campbell is 7-4 on the season and 4-0 in Big South games. CU currently sits atop the
Big South standings, along with league newcomer Mercer. In its 10
th season, CU's 4-0 start to Big South play is its second ever, and first since beginning 5-0 in 2017.
The Camels are coming off a
17-10 win at Longwood behind a career-high seven points from
Ally Heath. Campbell outscored the Lancers a combined 9-2 in the second and third quarters, with all six of Heath's goals coming in the decisive frames, adding an assist. Four different Camels have now scored five or more goals in a game this season.
Sam Bischoff also scored four goals with four ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls, while
Kyla Azzato picked up two goals and an assist.
Joslin Hanbury tacked on two goals, while
Megan Matthews and
Lexi McDaniel posted a goal and an assist each.
Matthews also caused three turnovers, along with
Rebekah Taylor, while
Mackenzie Kolesar picked up three ground balls and scored a goal at Longwood.
Campbell also
topped Radford 18-3 on the road last week.
Following the 2-0 week,
Rebekah Taylor was named
Big South Defensive Player of the Week. Taylor paced the Camels on the defensive end with six caused turnovers and five ground balls, adding a pair of draw controls at Radford and Longwood. The junior caused three turnovers in both games, picking up four ground balls in the win at Radford.
Led by Taylor, CU opponents accumulated 47 turnovers last week (including a season-high 25 at Longwood) while holding the Highlanders and Lancers to just 22 total shots on goal (including just eight at RU). Through four Big South games, Taylor leads the conference in caused turnovers with 11.
Camels have now earned Big South weekly honors six times this season.
For the season, Bischoff owns a team-high 47 points on 37 goals and 10 assists, adding 15 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. Matthews, meanwhile, has tallied 20 assists with 19 goals, while
Julianna Sanchez has posted 28 points, including 19 goals, with 66 draw controls.
Heath has registered 38 points on 31 goals and seven assists, as one of six Big South student-athletes to score 30 or more goals so far this season, along with teammate
Sam Bischoff. Heath has scored 16 goals with 19 total points over her last three games.
Defensively, Taylor has caused a team-high 17 turnovers with 27 ground balls, while
Annie Ryan has picked up 12 ground balls with 12 caused turnovers. In goal,
Emma Strickland has collected 82 saves.
The Running' Bulldogs are 6-6 overall and 2-2 in Big South games, coming into Wednesday's matchup after defeating Wofford 16-7. Jada Preston leads Gardner-Webb with 43 points on 30 goals and 13 assists, while Talen Francis has collected 38 points on 31 goals and seven assists. Heather Lobas also owns 18 caused turnovers with 30 ground balls.
CU has won all six meetings all-time against the Runnin' Bulldogs, including a 17-11 victory in Boiling Springs, N.C. last season.
Next up, Campbell will head to Wofford on Saturday, April 16. The Camels return home on April 20, hosting Presbyterian.
