Hawkins joins Campbell track & field staff

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell cross country and track & field head coach Virgil Givens has announced the addition of Myra Hawkins as an assistant coach. Hawkins will assist Givens in coaching horizontal jumpers and sprinters.

"I am very excited to welcome coach Hawkins to the Creek," said Givens. "Her pedigree, work ethic and passion for the 'whole athlete' led me to offer her. I was also impressed with her ability to develop athletes to All-American status. I am excited for our jumpers and for our quest for conference and national success!"

A former member of the Alabama State University track & field team, Hawkins has over 12 years of coaching experience. She graduated from Alabama State in 2009 with a B.S. in physical education. She then earned her M.Ed. in special education and teaching from Grand Canyon University in 2016.

Hawkins joins the staff after serving as the women's sprints, jumps, and hurdles coach at New Mexico Highlands University since 2018. Hawkins has coached a total of nine Division II All-Americans. While in New Mexico, she coached three NCAA Division II national qualifiers in the long jump and triple jump. Among those were the 2019 triple jump national champion and a triple jump bronze medalist in 2021.

Prior to her time in New Mexico, she spent a year at Florida State as an assistant coach specializing in women's sprints, hurdles and relay. During her year there she assisted with the success of multiple medalists at the ACC championships and national championships.

Hawkins also coached track and field at the high school level from 2011 to 2017, making stops at Cornerstone Academy, Huffman High School, and Woodlawn High School.
