Box Score ELON, N.C. - Elon scored three times in the first half as Campbell's late surge fell short in a 3-2 defeat Saturday night at Rudd Field.
Campbell falls to 2-5-4 and 1-3-2 in CAA play while the Phoenix improve to 2-7-3 and 1-3-2 in league play.
Elon scored the opening goal in the 5th minute on a right footed shot from Calle Edelstam just outside the 18 yard box. Campbell leveled the game just 1:36 later as Tai-Reece Chisholm scored off a deflected shot from Teva Lossec.
Scott Vatne put the Phoenix ahead again in the 17th minute on an assist from Victor Stromsen while Jack Dolk added another in the 34th minute off an Isak Sedin assist.
Adrien Gameiro hit the top of the crossbar on a deep shot fired from roughly 30 yards out in the 52nd minute. Tiago Lopes, making his season debut off the bench, had another attempt on goal as his header off a corner was saved in the 65th minute.
In the 84th minute, in the midst of a sudden downpour, Campbell found the back of the net when Lopes' header off a deep throw-in was deflected back in front of the net for Chisholm who headed it in for his second goal of the night.
The Phoenix held a 14-10 advantage in shots but the Camels had a 7-6 edge in attempts on frame.
Campbell returns to Buies Creek next Saturday to host William & Mary on Homecoming at 7 PM.
