Dudley Rounds Out Coaching Staff, Adds Patacsil and Gutierrez

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell wrestling head coach TJ Dudley has announced the addition of Jake Patacsil and Fabian Gutierrez as assistant coaches.

"I'm excited to officially welcome two outstanding individuals to our program," Dudley said. "Both are ready to work and fully committed to helping us build a culture defined by toughness, pride and a relentless pursuit of success."

Patacsil returns to the Campbell coaching staff, bringing extensive coaching experience after serving at multiple levels of college wrestling.

Patacsil was part of the Campbell program last season that captured a share of the 2024-25 Southern Conference regular season championship.

Previously, Patacsil was the inaugural head coach at St. Thomas University (Fla.), where he launched the NAIA program in 2020. In the 2022-23 season, Patacsil guided David Pierson to NAIA All-America status in just the program's third year of existence. Pierson defeated the No. 3-ranked wrestler to secure a top-eight finish at 141 pounds.

Before St. Thomas, Patacsil began the wrestling program at Mount Olive (N.C.) in 2018, where two wrestlers qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships before the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Patacsil also spent four seasons as an assistant at Hofstra University, helping produce two two-time NCAA qualifiers and an All-American. In addition, Patacsil has held assistant roles at Duke, Notre Dame College, Central College, Manchester University and St. Thomas Aquinas

In total, Patacsil has coached two NCAA Division I All-Americans, seven Division II All-Americans and one NAIA All-American.

"Jake has already proven to be a valuable part of our program, and we're thrilled to have him back in an official capacity," Dudley said. "His experience, consistency and work ethic have elevated our room, and he continues to embody the standard we're building at Campbell wrestling."

Before coaching, Patacsil was a four-year member of the Purdue University wrestling team, becoming an NCAA All-American at 149 pounds. Patacsil finished his Boilermaker career third all-time in career wins (120), second in reversals (51) and is the all-time program leader in back points (803). He also holds the 14th-highest winning percentage in school history. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in math education from Purdue.

Patacsil was also the first Purdue wrestler to receive the Big Ten Medal of Honor, awarded for excellence in both academics and athletics. He was a third-generation member of the Patacsil family to wrestle for Purdue, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Joe, who was a 1950 national champion, his father, Frank, and uncle, Ted.

He and his wife, Ke Cheng, reside in Fuquay-Varina, N.C., with their two children, Apollo and Artemis.

Gutierrez joins Campbell after one season as an assistant coach at Army West Point, where he also competed as a Regional Training Center athlete for the West Point Wrestling Club.

A Commerce City, Colo., native, Gutierrez was a three-time NCAA Division I qualifier and 2022 Southern Conference champion at 125 pounds for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He finished his collegiate career with a 74-34 record, including a 21-8 mark as a senior. Gutierrez graduated in 2022 from Chattanooga with a bachelor's degree in sport management.

"Fabian brings great energy and a fresh, unique feel to Campbell," Dudley said. "Having wrestled in our conference, he's a familiar face to fans and understands the level of intensity required to win in the SoCon. His perspective and drive will make an immediate impact on our athletes."

Before his collegiate career, Gutierrez wrestled at Adams City High School in Commerce City, where he was the 2016 Colorado state champion at 113 pounds. On the international circuit, Gutierrez placed third at 55 kg at the Bill Farrell International (Greco-Roman) and fifth at 55 kg at the U.S. Open.
