Montgomery, Hubley collect CAA weekly honors

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Freshman pitcher Katelyn Hubley was named CAA Pitcher of the Week and senior Charlie Montgomery was named CAA Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Hubley continued to excel in the circle, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the series against Hampton. She allowed just five hits and one walk over 8.2 scoreless innings. Hubley opened the series with 3.2 strong innings, striking out three and allowing one hit. The freshman followed with a complete-game, five-inning shutout in the finale, striking out seven without issuing a walk in an 8-0 victory. On the week, Hubley held opponents to a .167 batting average and posted a 0.69 WHIP.
The honor marks the fifth CAA weekly award of her career. Hubley was also named CAA Rookie of the Week on March 31 and earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors on March 3. Hubley was named CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week on April 6 and CAA Pitcher of the Week on April 13.

Montgomery helped Campbell in a midweek matchup against UNCG and a CAA series sweep of Hampton. In four games, the senior outfielder slashed .727/.692/.909 overall with an 8-for-11 showing at the dish. Montgomery drove in two RBIs and scored four times, while collecting two hits and at least one run in all three conference matchups. During her final home series, the Lumber Bridge, N.C., native went 7-for-9 against Hampton, posting multi-hit performances in each game and scoring at least one run in all three. The center fielder played a key role in Campbell outscoring its opponents, 34-10, over the four-game stretch.

Montgomery earns her third Player of the Week honor this season after being named Co-Player of the Week on Feb. 10 following her performance during the Camels' opening weekend and CAA Player of the Week on April 13.

The awards are the eighth and ninth weekly honors for Campbell this season. Hubley is the first Camel to earn five this season, securing the program record for single-season CAA weekly awards. She is also the second player in program history to earn multiple CAA Rookie of the Week honors, joining sophomore Hannah Cornetto. Montgomery is the first player in program history to earn multiple CAA Player of the Week nods.

Monmouth freshman Carah Sumpter was named CAA Rookie of the Week.

Hubley, Montgomery and the Camels travel to Wilmington, North Carolina, to face UNCW in the final series of the regular season with the CAA South title on the line. The series begins Thursday, April 30, at 6 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. first pitch Friday and a 1 p.m. finale Sunday. All three games will be streamed on FloCollege.
