HIGH POINT, N.C. - Two Camels broke school records while four earned podium finishes on the first day of the Big South Outdoor Championships at Vert Stadium.
The Campbell men are in second place in the team standings through five of the 21 events with a total of 53 points. High Point leads the men's standings with 70 points.
Campbell's women stand fourth as a team through three events with 14 points, just behind High Point (20 points), Hampton (19 points) and North Carolina A&T (18 points).
ON THE FIELD
D.J. McClain improved his own school record in the men's hammer and earned first-place overall with his mark of 59.46m (195' 1"). Andrew Ward took fourth with a season best mark of 52.10m (170' 11") while Omar Ibrahim finished seventh with a personal best mark of 51.12m (167' 8").
In the women's hammer, Samantha Ennis led the way for Campbell with a personal best mark of 50.62m (166' 1"). Jenna Dankert took seventh in the event with a personal best toss of 49.26m (161' 7").
Destiny Bailey-Perkins tied her personal best in the women's long jump, taking seventh overall with a mark of 5.67m (18' 7.25").
Picking up a podium mark in the men's pole vault was Jefferson Hutchinson who took third overall after clearing a season best height of 4.51m (14' 9.5"). Mason Askew took fifth in the event after clearing a personal best 4.41m (14' 5.5").
Nicholas Veynovich led a trio of Camels in the men's javelin, taking third place with a personal best mark of 58.45m (191' 9"). Josh Kudrick followed in fourth with a season best mark of 58.23m (191' 0") while Zach Stein-Drago took fifth with a mark of 54.41m (178' 6").
Tyrell Johnson took fifth in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.21m (23' 8") while Jalen Bristow took eighth with a personal best mark of 7.05m (23' 1.75").
ON THE TRACK
Chastity Pickett ran a school record time of 58.73 in the women's 400m hurdles, posting a time of 58.73 in the prelims of the event and qualifying for the event finals.
In the men's 400m hurdles prelims, Andre Leslie ran a personal best time of 53.01 to qualify for the finals.
Athanas Kioko finished with the top time in the men's 1500m prelims, clocking in at 3:42.65 to qualify for the event finals on Wednesday.
Dorcus Ewoi qualified for the women's 1500m finals on Wednesday after finishing third in the prelims with a time of 4:37.25.
Jadarien Parker and Dominique Alexander both qualified for the men's 200m finals. Parker ran a 20.96 while Alexander posted a season best time of 21.06.
Rounding out the day, Dennis Kiptoo took third in the men's 10,000m with a time of 30:20.51.Lesego Mpshe took fourth in the women's 10,000m with a time of 36:10.68.
