Camels finish busy first day at CAA Championships

ELON, N.C. - Four Camels reached the podium and four more set CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet records on the opening day of action at the Jerry and Jeanne Robertson Complex at Elon. The men sit in sixth place and the women in seventh after the first day of action.

Lakelyn Bass landed on the podium in second place in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.80m. 

CJ McBride also took second place on day one in the long jump at 7.57m. Destiny Bailey-Perkins landed on the podium on the women's side of the long jump, taking third with a mark of 5.97m. 

Reagan Wise finished tied for third in the men's pole vault, clearing a mark of 4.55m. 

Numerous Campbell sprinters qualified for Saturday's finals. The highlight of that group is the men's 200, where four qualified Camels will make up half of the field in tomorrow's finals. Jamel Miller led the group at 20.74 and the top qualifying time, followed by Dominique Alexander in third, Jamal Miller in fifth, and De'Shawn Ballard in seventh.

Three Camels qualified on the women's side in the same event. Brianna Clayton posted a new meet record with a mark of 23.37 to pace the prelims. Jaidyn Ramsey grabbed fourth and Aaliyah Harris took eighth to reach tomorrow's finals. 

Three more will compete in the finals of the men's 100. Dominique Alexander ran a meet-record 10.22 for the fastest prelim time. Jamal Miller made it a 1-2 finish for the Camels while Hayden  Cobbs nabbed seventh. 

Ramsey also posted a meet record in the women's 100 at 11.39. Aaliyah Harris will join her in tomorrow's final after finishing fifth in prelims. 

Chastity Pickett continued her dominance of the 400 hurdles by posting a meet record 57.01. 

Miller, De'Shawn Ballard, and Glenn Skinner all reached tomorrow's finals in the men's 400. Brianna Clayton qualified in the women's 400, and Aaliyah Brown-Muhammad and Chastity Pickett each qualified in the women's 100 hurdles. 

Action resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the field events, with track finals beginning at 1 p.m.
