The Camels dropped a tight contest against #23 UNCW Saturday night, 2-1. Both teams scored in the first eight minutes, but the Seahawks scored the game-winner off a corner kick in the 76^th minute.
 
The Eagles will play the final game of a six-game road stretch when they make the trip to Eakes on Tuesday. Winthrop opened its Big South campaign with a 3-1 win over Radford on Saturday. Juma Baden leads the team with seven goals, and Euan Brindley has played six games in goal with 16 total saves. The Eagles rank 10^th in the NCAA in scoring offense and 21^st in shot accuracy.
 
The Camels are 26-6 in the series history against the Eagles and have won seven in a row, shutting out Winthrop in the previous six contests. CU came away with a 2-0 victory on the road last year. Current Camel Jayco Castro came off the bench and logged 62 minutes for the Eagles and recorded four shots with one on frame.
 
CU opens the new season with fresh faces across the board, including a new boss in head coach Ricky Davey. The first-year skipper comes to Buies Creek after serving as the associate head coach at Mercer last season. In addition to his success at the collegiate level, Davey has also proven to be a winning coach in the Atlanta United Academy program with its U14 and U19 squads.
 
Returning midfielder Xander Martin was named to the All-CAA Preseason Team as an honorable mention. He is one of the few returning faces, as the Camels welcome 18 newcomers.
 
The Camels rank second among all Division I teams in total minutes lost from the 2025 season (18,783) and percentage of minutes lost (94.9%).
