Campbell finishes second at Big South Championships

McBride, Pickett named Most Valuable Athletes, Givens named Women's Coach of the Year

BLACKSBURG, VA. - Campbell track & field finished second in both the men's and women's team standings as competition concluded at the Big South Indoor Championships.

Campbell's men, who won the program's first track & field conference title last season, finished with 163 points while the women finished with 125.5 points. High Point won the men's championship with 190 points and the women's title with 215.

Head coach Virgil Givens was named Big South Men's Coach of the Year.

C.J. McBride was named as the men's Most Outstanding Performer and Most Valuable Athlete after earning first place marks in the high jump and triple jump and third place in the long jump.

Chastity Pickett was named women's Most Valuable Athlete after finishing first in the 60 meters, 60 meter hurdles and 200 meters.

Kailey Elliott was named women's Freshman of the Year after earning points in the 4x400m relay, 60 meters, 60m hurdles and 200 meters for the Camels.

Both Omar Ibrahim and Lakelyn Bass were named to the Big South All-Academic Team.

IN THE FIELD
Ibrahim broke his own school record and captured first overall in the men's weight throw with a mark of 17.90 meters. Omare McBride earned third place in the women's triple jump with a personal best mark of 11.82 meters.

ON THE TRACK
Jaden Jenkins finished second overall and tied the school record in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.06.

Pickett earned first in the women's 60m hurdles, topping her own school record with a time of 8.21. Pickett also set a new school record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.48 and topped her own record in the 200m with a first place time of 23.73.

Jamel Miller took first in the men's 400 meters and recaptured the school record with a time of 47.45. Andre Bent placed first in the men's 60 meters with a personal best time of 6.72 while Dominique Alexander took third in the event with a time of 6.77. Alexander would return later to take first place in the men's 200 meters with a time of 20.99 while Jamel Miller would take second in the event with a time of 21.19.

Dorcus Ewoi finished first in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:09.73 and first in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:35.46.

The men's 4x400m relay team consisting of Glenn Skinner, Alexander, Parker and Jamel Miller placed first with a time of 3:13.34. The women's 4x400m relay squad of Taylor Cotter, Destiny Bailey-Perkins, Elliott and Pickett took third with a time of 3:52.33.

Ebenezer Edzii finished fifth in the men's heptathlon with 4,283 points.

Campbell will await results from around the country to determine which individuals qualify for NCAA Indoor Championships later next month.
