Hall of Fame
Two-sport standout Archie Brigman was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 7, 1989. He was one of the top halfbacks in Campbell Junior College history and also earned two letters in baseball.

Brigman arrived at Campbell in 1946 after serving a three-year stint in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 and served on the battleship USS Knave.Â

A native of Hamer, S.C., Brigman earned three letters in football. He was chosen as co-captain of the 1948 football team and earned all-conference recognition that same season.

Brigman went on to Elon College, where he was a two-year starting halfback on the football and twice earned all-conference honors in baseball. He graduated from Elon with a B.A. in physical education and his master’s degree in education administration from East Carolina.

In 1951 he began a 20-year high school coaching career – starting at Stoneville, followed by stints at Raeford, Ahoskie and Hobbton. His 1960 Hobbton baseball team won the state championship.

From 1972-87, Brigman served as a principal in the Cumberland County Schools. He is a recipient of Campbell’s Distinguished Alumni Award and was inducted into the Sampson County Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

He passed away Jan. 7, 2002 at the age of 77.
