Hall of Fame
Two-sport standout Walter Deal was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 5, 1991. A native of Wilmington, Deal attended Campbell from 1946-49 and starred in both football and basketball for the Fighting Camels.
Â
Deal served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 and spent 18 months in the Asiatic-Pacific theaters. After his arrival at Campbell, he earned three letters in football and two in basketball.
Â
On the gridiron, Deal was co-captain of the Campbell squad and gained all-conference in both 1947 and 1948. On the basketball court, Deal was named team captain and all-state in both of his varsity seasons (1946 and 1947). He was also an NCJC all-tournament selection in 1947.
Â
After graduation, he moved to Greensboro and worked in the business community. His memory lives through the Walter Linville Deal endowed scholarship at his alma mater.
