Bill Holleman, a former soccer standout who went on to become one of the nation’s top high school soccer coaches, was inducted into the Campbell University Sports Hall of Fame in October 2002.
 
A 1968 graduate with a B.S. in Health, Physical Education, Social Science and History, the native of Durham entered the high school coaching ranks following graduation.  Coach Holleman’s teams won more than 600 games and six state championships in North Carolina or Georgia.
 
Coach Holleman guided Ravenscroft School in Raleigh to a 224-37-13 overall record and his 1977 and 1978 teams were North Carolina Independent Schools state champions.  He moved to Atlanta in 1979 and began a 14-year tenure at Lovett School, where he led his program to four state titles between 1984 and 1989.
 
He was named National Soccer Coaches Association of America Regional High School Coach of the Year in both 1978 and 1985.  Additionally, he earned regional and National Coach of the Year honors in 1989.
 
A talented administrator, from 1988 through 1990 Holleman served as President of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the largest coaches organization in the world.  In 1993, he accepted a position with the World Cup ’94 organizing committee, then was selected to serve as Venue Executive Director in Detroit.  He was named President of the Birmingham, Alabama, Olympic Soccer site for the 1996 games.
 
He has been inducted into the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame and Georgia Soccer Hall of Fame and was presented the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Honor Award in the spring of 2002.  He was a member of the NCSAA Hall of Fame class of 2017.
