Hall of Fame
Basketball All-American Billy Mason was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 2, 1993. He was a standout on both the basketball and football teams.

On the hardwood, Mason led the Camels to the 1949 National Junior College Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. He was twice selected all-state and all-state tournament and was an honorable mention JUCO All-American in ’49.

On the football field, Mason was a standout offensive end and defensive halfback. He was also voted President of Campbell’s Monogram Club in ’48-49. Following his Campbell career, Mason went on to Wake Forest, where he played for the Demon Deacons basketball and track teams.

Mason served in the public education field for 37 years. He was a coach, principal and associate superintendent of the New Hanover County School System before retiring in 1988.
