Hall of Fame
A former two-sport standout, Len Maness was inducted into the Campbell Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 3, 1987. A native of Fayetteville, Maness attended Campbell from 1952-54 and starred on the basketball and baseball teams.Â

He helped lead Campbell to the 1954 National Junior College basketball tournament and earned honorable mention All-America honors along with recognition as Campbell’s most athletic male athlete.

Maness began a distinguished coaching career in 1957, when he guided Williamston to the state baseball finals in his first season. He returned to his hometown later that year at led Fayetteville (now Terry Sanford) High School in basketball from 1957-78 and football from 1978-84. He was named the school’s athletic director in 1967 and assistant principal in 1984.

Maness’ basketball teams won over 300 games during his tenure and captured the state 4-A championship in 1965 and ’66. His teams reached the final eight in the state tourney seven times.

Maness led five Terry Sanford football teams to the Class 4-A state playoffs in seven seasons. His 1981 team was 13-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state before falling in the state title game. Thus, during his brilliant coaching career, Maness led teams to the state championship game in baseball, basketball and football.

Coach Maness was inducted into the Fayetteville Sports Club Hall of Fame in 2005.
