One of the top tennis players in Fighting Camel history, Billy Williams was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame in October 1992. Campbell’s number one player in singles and doubles for all four years (1978-82), Williams posted a combined 100-75 record during the Camels’ early seasons of Division I competition.

He was named team captain and MVP as a senior and graduated cum laude with a bachelor in business administration in 1982.  He was also named to the Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society and to Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities.

Following his collegiate playing career, Williams coached the Camel men’s tennis team to a 65-37 record from 1983-85.  He went on to lead Coastal Carolina to a 40-25 record as men’s and women’s tennis coach in 1986-87, when his women finished as runner-up in the Big South Conference.

A member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, Williams won numerous open tennis tournaments.  He was selected by the USPTA Southern Division as the 1990 South Carolina Tennis Professional of the Year.

In November 1989, Williams was part of a team that set a world record for continuous doubles play – competing for 130 hours.  He has been a member of the National Advisory staff for both Mizuno Tennis and Gamma Sports.

He worked in the tennis business for 20 years as a manager, teaching professional and director of tennis at Forest Lake Club (Columbia, S.C.), the Island Club (Hilton Head, S.C.),  Piper Glen (Charlotte, N.C.) and Debordieu Colony (Georgetown, S.C.).  Since 2007, he has worked in the pet care business, most recently with Destination Pet, LLC.
