One of the greatest catchers in Fighting Camel history, Wayne Dale was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 1, 1994.  His .374 career batting average still ranked among the top five in in the CU Division I era (since 1978) 40 years after he graduated in 1982.

During Dale’s senior year, he ranked 20th nationally in batting, was seventh in home runs and sixth in runs batted in.

He was drafted in the 16th round by the Texas Rangers following his junior season, however elected to remain in school to earn his degree in trust management.  Dale played one season of professional baseball following graduation after he was chosen in the 24th round of the 1982 draft by the Cleveland Indians.

Dale’s collegiate career was one marked by perseverance.  He played in only three games as a freshman and in just 18 as a sophomore.  During his junior campaign, he hit a then-school record 16 home runs and batted .372 while playing in all 45 games.  He again clubbed 16 homers as a senior when he batted a whopping .432, which still ranked as the third-highest average in CU history through the end of the 2022 season.

A senior vice president, Dale has worked for four decades with Wells Fargo Bank.
