NAIA All-American golfer Jim Gurkin was inducted into the Campbell Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 7, 1989.  He helped lead the 1969 team to a fifth-place finish in the national tournament.
 
Twice named team MVP, Gurkin was a four-year letterwinner.  Following his graduation in 1969 with a B.S. in physical education, Gurkin served as assistant professional at the North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh.  In 1971, he accepted responsibilities as club pro, greens superintendent and manager of the Henderson (N.C.) Country Club.
 
In 1989, Gurkin purchased Willow Springs Country Club in Wilson and served as owner/pro/manager of the course for more than three decades.
 
A member of the Professional Golfers Association and the United States Golf Association, Gurkin began playing tournament golf in the Carolinas Section in 1972.  He won and placed in a number of Pro-Ams and qualified for the National Club Professionals Tournament.
