Two-sport standout Don Prince – who went on to reach the major leagues – was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 1, 1988.

A native of Clarkton, N.C., Prince attended Campbell from 1956-58 and starred in both baseball and basketball for the Fighting Camels.  He excelled on the diamond under the tutelage of Coach Hargrove B. Davis.

His achievements at Campbell earned him recognition as “Most Athletic” in the Class of ’58.  Prince received his A.A. degree in ’58 and later earned his B.S. in physics and chemistry from East Carolina.

Prince signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs organization in 1958 and played professional baseball for seven seasons.  A right-handed pitcher, he reached the major leagues in 1962.

After retiring from baseball in 1965, Prince taught for three years at Hoke County High School and coached the basketball team to the state 3-A title game in 1967.

He moved to Wilmington and enjoyed a successful career in real estate and insurance.  Prince passed away Nov. 8, 2017.
